WEATHERVANES Except for one piece (BUFO), all the pieces shown in this category are constructed of a bronze skin with a tubular, stainless steel skeleton, and are one-of-a-kind. BUFO (Latin for frog) is made of welded copper and copies are available in a limited edition. I design each piece on a scale and imagery to fit the site, in collaboration with the client. Learn more about the collaborative process >>> These works have a sophisticated bearing mechanism using a set of two double-sealed bearings, such that they move with a gentle grace and ease with the subtlest change in wind direction. They require no maintenance and the entire piece is constructed of materials that will last indefinitely. While these wind-activated sculptures are akin to weathervanes they go far beyond that. These works are labor intensive and I use expensive materials that will last forever. Depending on the scale and design, a commissioned work could cost somewhere between $10,000 and $30,000. |
